Getting Foundations Right

The Australian Guide to Healthy Eating (opposite - www.eatforhealth.gov.au) advises that we need be eating the right amount of serves of each of the 5 food groups for optimal well being . The 5 food groups consist of fruit, vegetables, dairy, bread and cereals and, meat and alternatives.

These guidelines have been put together to ensure that us humans consume adequate amounts of all our essential nutrients, including all the vitamins and minerals to function on a daily basis. And I emphasis the last bit: daily basis.

Too often we neglect a food group and replace our mid-morning fruit with a ‘treat’ or ‘sometimes’ food which substitutes vital nutrition components with a sugar and fat rush and not much else. So try and incorporate the basic 5 food groups into your day to guarantee you’re running at your optimal best.
